How do I apply for unemployment?
File online through your state DOL website as soon as you lose your job. You need: SSN, employer info, dates of employment, and reason for separation. File weekly certifications to keep receiving benefits.
Can immigrants file for unemployment?
Legal permanent residents and workers with valid work authorization can receive UI if they worked and paid into the system. DACA recipients can receive UI in most states.
Are unemployment benefits taxable?
Yes. Benefits are taxable income. You can have 10% withheld for federal taxes when you apply, or pay at tax time.
