What benefits can DACA recipients get?+
DACA recipients can work legally but are generally not eligible for federal benefits. However CA, IL, NY, and WA offer state-funded Medicaid, food assistance, and other programs to DACA holders.
Can undocumented immigrants get any benefits?+
Emergency Medicaid is available everywhere. WIC and school meals cover U.S.-born children. California, Illinois, New York, Washington, and Oregon offer state-funded health and food programs regardless of status.
What benefits do refugees receive?+
Newly arrived refugees get up to 8 months of cash assistance, Medicaid, employment services, and English language training through the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Does getting benefits affect a green card application?+
As of 2023, only SSI and long-term institutional care count as public charge. SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and housing assistance do NOT affect green card applications.
